Welcome to the Kadoka Area School District website, where spelling Kougars with a "K" is alright, alright, alright!
I'm David Ohrtman (Dave, or Mr. Ohrtman to my students). I grew up near Rapid City, and received my Bachelor's of Science degree in Education from Black Hills State University in 1997. This is my 25th year in the Kadoka Area district.
I teach the majority of the high school social science classes at Kadoka. In the 2022-23 school year, I will be teaching World Geography, World History, United States History, American Government, sociology and psychology. I truly enjoy the teaching profession, but I also like to learn, whether it is from a book, from an expert on a particular subject or from my students. Growing up with one of my favorite school subjects being social studies, I'm always on the lookout for new and interesting ideas I can use in my classroom.
I have been teaching and coaching at Kadoka Area since 1998, and am currently the Head Track Coach and sophomore class advisor. As a coach, I'm a firm believer in the concept of a student-athlete, with academics coming as the top priority for anyone wanting to participate in sports, the fine arts or anything our district has to offer. The 2022 track and field season was one of our most successful in recent history. Kadoka Area proudly placed FOUR student athletes in the track meet. The Kougars had two individual state champions (Dawson Reckling, Class B Boys' High Jump and Lanie Blair, Class B Girls' Discus), a runner up (Gracie Eisenbraun, pole vault) and a fifth place (Rebecca Shuck, high jump). There were also FOUR school records broken in the 2022 season by these same kids. We are proud of our track and field tradition at KAHS and proud of all of our student athletes who make the commitment to our team.
As our school song so eloquently puts it: LOYAL TO OUR KOUGARS, WE WILL EVER BE...GO KOUGARS!!!
